Custom "Garbage" Matte Masking! | SceneForge 0.7.0

Aug 23, 2022 2:29 pm

Hello there !

This new feature release marks the major version update to 0.7.0, and I'm super excited about what it means for live compositing workflows in SceneForge.

As always, you can check out the video below, or read on for more info.

What's New?

In addition to various bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, the big new feature in this release is the ability to create custom "Garbage Mattes" for your composited footage, in addition to the existing crop and content-aware clipping tools.

This allows you to be more precise with masking your static-camera footage without requiring perfectly straight edges or high GPU usage -- all using included masking tools built right into the SceneForge Editor!

What Are Garbage Mattes?

Basically, it's a lightweight way of specifying what parts of the frame should be ignored. This allows us to work with more complex footage, while still having the ease of the existing chromakey system. You can learn more about different types of mattes here and check out this example image below:

On the right we have our masked footage, and on the left you have the resulting non-keyed frame with color-correction applied.

New Chromakey Workflow:

You can see that even before we begin keying out the green screen, we can specify that everything around the masked area is "Garbage" and shouldn't be used.

Then, once we begin keying out the background, we (and your computer) have a lot less work to do.

Updated Pricing:

Another thing that comes with this new feature release is an updated price point to better cater to those interested in the software.

Because of this, we're adopting a price model that's a bit more standard in the creative industry, without any deceptive monthly fees.

You will receive an update when that gets put into effect, but rest assured that all existing customers and purchases made before that will be honored at no extra cost.
