Trackball Color Grading - Log and Primaries | SceneForge 0.7.9

Sep 23, 2022 8:52 pm

Hello there, !

While SceneForge did have great color grading before, with 2D and 3D LUT support among other controls, one of the things it was missing was proper Color Grading Trackball support. This type of interface has become standard among all color grading workflows as it provides easier and finer control over the image.

Now you can control the Lift, Gamma, Gain, and Shadows, Midtones, and Highlights using trackball controls right within the existing color grading menu in both the main SceneForge app, and in Server mode (shown in video).

For more info, read on or check out the video below!

How does it work?

For a more detailed overview of Color Grading Trackball usage, I recommend this video.

For a more specific guide on what these mean within SceneForge, you can check out the color grading documentation page here.

Primaries Wheels:

These follow the ASC CDL standard. When you adjust the position of the point on the trackball, it shifts the hue of the image towards that color in the given tonal range.

You can use the different trackballs to affect different ranges within the image. Adjust the slider under the trackball to offset the color lightness of that range.

Log Wheels:

These separately control the shadows, midtones, and highlights of the frame. Unlike Lift, Gamma, and Gain, you can use these to precisely define the tonal range for each property.
