SceneForge Server Announcement | SF Compositing in other Engines!

Sep 12, 2022 10:04 pm

Hello there, !

This is an exciting announcement that will change the way you use SceneForge in the coming weeks!

Throughout SceneForge's development, a lot of focus was put into the easy-yet-powerful compositing tools, such as chromakey, content-aware clipping, and body tracking. But, despite wanting to use this functionality, many people's workflow revolve around other 3D engines and software.

That's why I'm introducing SceneForge Server, a new product in the lineup that will exist alongside the current product.

What is SceneForge Server? What does this mean for me?

Everything you have now in SceneForge will continue to exist and evolve, but now on startup, you can choose to open SceneForge in a lightweight "Server" mode, which has an interface specially designed for only compositing, keying, and tracking.

This includes all camera and video input tools, as well as a timeline solely for syncing video.

Then, you can output your transparent footage to any other compatible software using NDI, Spout/Syphon, or TCP/IP. This means you will be able to use SceneForge's great keying and body-tracking tools within Unity, Unreal, and others!

How does it work?

Essentially, it takes the existing performant, powerful, and smart compositing functionality currently in SceneForge, but expands upon them into a standalone 2D, layer-based interface. You can bring in other realtime sources (with NDI, Spout, or others), and order and combine them with live camera feeds and video files to create a realistic composite, which can then be fed into whatever other software you like.

SceneForge Server can either act as a powerful background subtraction tool for use within other Engines, or as the "final step" of blending live-action and CG feeds in real-time.

This new mode won't be available for a week or two (in beta), but I'm extremely excited to share the progress and what's next for the platform.

It will be available as a free update to Pro Users.
