Happy Thanksgiving and Times and Seasons of Life

Hey there!

Happy Thanksgiving (to those in the U.S.)! I hope you are taking time for family and enjoying way too much food. I know that I am. We have a tradition to have the kids each pick a pie to make with my wife, Sarah, so the more kids we have, the more pie we get. Obviously the little ones (baby and 20 month old) won't pick one, but the other five are a yes. Do we need five pies? Not at all. Do we do it anyway? 100%.

The past couple weeks have been somewhat of a challenge in a number of ways. First off, I had to travel to San Diego for work for a few days, which is something I haven't had to do in nearly six years. Keep in mind that travel for the Kenners is much different than for a normal person. It meant I had to leave my wife and kids to manage the homestead alone for days. Fortunately my mother-in-law came to help with things inside, but the chores fell on Sarah. It was intense. She did it, like a boss. Yet it reminded us just how much we've taken on to run this homestead. Two hours of chores every day is not for the lighthearted, and that's with two adults and three kids helping out part of the time. With just Sarah and the kids, it took much much longer. Still, she's incredible and was able to get it all taken care of.

But hey, I got some cool pictures I guess. Lol.

Naturally, just a few days after getting home from the trip, everyone in the family got sick! Headaches, sore throats, fevers, body aches, the whole shebang. This one leveled pretty much every one of the kids and Sarah and myself. Naturally, you can imagine my author progress slowed down quite a bit this past couple of weeks, but it happens. There's times and seasons when progress is fast and others when it slows down. We take it as it comes and work with what we have.

My Progress This Week

I'm happy to say that the line edits for Demon Blooded are progressing very well! The editor is kind enough to give pretty frequent updates, and from what I know she is nearly 80% through the manuscript. With a short break for Thanksgiving, it should still be back to me within the next couple weeks. Getting edits back is bittersweet, but the more exciting piece is that I'll be closer to sending it out to early readers before it's published.

Book four is coming along a bit slower than I expected, on account of the business trip and then getting the lovely sickness I discussed above. Still, it's clocking in at just under 30k, which is at least double what it was in the last update. Hopefully once recovered I can get that needle moved a bit faster.

The most intriguing thing about writing this book in particular is first person from the perspective of someone who constantly hears the thoughts of every person around him. Now I don't just have to account for his own teenaged thoughts, but also the thoughts of a bunch of strangers. 😅 Obviously I'm not going overboard, yet it's still something I'm having to account for.
