Cozy Fantasy, Falling Leaves, and Sweater Weather

Even though it'll be about 80 degrees here in Kentucky today, Sweater Weather is well on its way. I love fall. Cooler weather, pretty leaves falling from the trees, my allergies take a nap. There is also more time for reading!

This year, the Cozy Fantasy genre has grown pretty popular. Books like Legends and Latte or The Tea Dragon are all over the socials. What is Cozy Fantasy? As the title suggests, it's typically a lower stakes fantasy tale. The world isn't necessarily on fire and life or death stakes don't drive the narrative. One definition called it "A Slice of Life Fantasy".

Do these stories appeal to you? Have you read any? From a guy who likes stories about Dragon overlords, I wasn't sure I would enjoy the genre. I've only read a couple of these books, but found them really refreshing.

Let me know your thoughts on Cozy Fantasy. Have you tried it? Do you like it? I love hearing from you. jack@authorjackadkins.com

A Distant Roar

I got some exciting news this week. One of my favorite authors, Tiger Hebert, is back! After a season of real life craziness, he's is back to editing The Darklight's War, the final installment in his Beating Back the Darkness Series. If you haven't read this series, go snag Dragon's Fire. It's Dragon fantasy with a good moral message.

NaNoWriMo

It's November. That means it's National Novel Writing Month again! Every year quadrillions of authors (not really, but it's a lot) get together (virtually) with a goal to write 50,000 words in 30 days. 50k words is a short novel. For reference, my books around around 100k each. It doesn't have to be new projects. Indeed, I am working on my 3rd novel, affectionately dubbed 'Sum Bucks in Paradise' as part of NaNoWriMo. The focus of a lofty goal, and the additional support I get, I should have the first draft done before Mariah Carey is fully thawed.

Progress

I'm well over 90,000 words. I'm still doing the 'two steps forward, one step back' thing with this story, but I'm moving forward. My subconscious mind has been churning on what's next. My plan is still to take a break between Dorwine trilogies, but I'm not sure what will come in between. A Tabir novella (or story released on Kindle Vella, perhaps) is for sure, and maybe an Ember backstory. We shall see.
