Ear Candy for Authors
Podcasts! I have a long commute and I have found podcasts are a great way to be productive while I'm driving. There are so many good ones for authors. I’m going to mention a few I like. Then I would love to hear which you find most helpful.
Writing Excuses. This amazing podcast by Brandon Sanderson and the gang was my staple when I started writing. It really motivated me and helped hone my craft. The first five or six seasons are the best. After that, the show kind of drifts. In my opinion. The obvious draw for me was Brandon Sanderson but I also enjoyed the others on the show. Dan Wells I’m Not a Serial Killer book series was fascinating. I may have never discovered him without this podcast. Howard Tayer and Mary Robinette Kowal were also very good.
Six Figure Authors was an interesting concept. I knew of indie authors who were full time and seemed to do well, but to have a trio of authors talking weekly about how to make a six figure salary from writing. That was intriguing. This podcast focused more on the business side of writing. I learned so much from the hosts! Lindsay Buroker, Jo Lallo, and Andrea Pearson each of these authors brought a unique perspective and approach.
There are tons of other podcasts I could recommend, but I want to finish with this one. This podcast by Jim Blatch and Cara Claire is brand new. About 10 episodes at the time of this post. I really like this one because it has pumped some excitement back into my writing career. They cover a lot of ground other podcasts I’ve heard cover, but it’s very relevant. And they are British!
Each of these podcasts can help you in your writing career. If you have others you like, drop me a line! jack@authorjackadkins.com
