Are Some Books Worth Waiting For?

When Authors Break Our Hearts

I'm late. Like, way late. Book 3 of my series has been hard. Life has been hard. This book should have released last month, if I could have kept my previous schedule. I did not. I'm realistically looking at a release in the first half of next year. In my mind I see Jim Butcher, Patrick Rothfuss, and George R.R. Martin smirking at me from the corner.

I've complained about each of these authors many times for their tardy release schedules. For every Nora Roberts (a.k.a J.D. Robb) and Brandon Sanderson there are a hundred authors not possessed of a super-human ability to write.

Where do you stand on this debate? Do you expect your favorite authors to stick to their regular release schedule? Is it ok if they are occassionally late with a book? How about the aforementioned authors who have expected books years in the tank? I've been guilty of saying "How do you have time to stream Minecraft? Shouldn't you be writing?" Yeah. I'm eating some humble pie right now.

What are your thoughts? Should your favorite author be chained to their desk with ankle manacles until their deadlines are all met? I love getting e-mails from you. Dab me up on e-mail: jack@authorjackadkins.com

On A Person Note

We are heading to our family tree farm for a quick weekend trip of ATVs and chainsaws this weekend. I'll try to post some obligatory chainsaw pics.

Progress

In light of the discussion above, I'm proud to announce that I'm almost at the 90,000 word mark. I realize that may not mean much to y'all. For context, Book 1 was 98k+ and Book 2 came in at just over 107k words. This will be a longer story. Lots to tie up. My plan for this series before I wrote a single word was a pair of trilogies with a time gap between them. That's still the plan. Apart from a big slow down with Book 3 we are still on track with that story. I would love to finish my Tabir story and write an Ember book between the two trilogies. The Tabir story may be a serial on Vella. Do any of you read on Vella or Royal Road?

In a few weeks I will put the second Klavin story up as a free reader to the general public. Klavin is very important to my world and I'm likely not done writing his story.
