Nothing New Under the Sun

Mission Impossible, Fast and the Furious, Guardians of the Galaxy, Dune, Spider-Man, John Wick, Shazam!, Meg, Scream, Transformers, just to name a few. Each of these franchises have a new movie this year. When I was a kid we had brand new movie ideas every time we turned around. Has everything been done? Reboots, sequels, prequels, rebrands. I suppose it will stop when people quit paying to see these movies. Are books any different?

In writing you hear advice to know your audience and write what people want to read. That's good financial advice but so many book jackets be like "It's Harry Potter meets Hunger Games, with sparkly vampires". I just started Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros and I'm already like: young people in school; check, Dragons; check, the fate of the world is on the line; check. It's a good read, so far, but I'm in the mood for something original.

I try really hard to write weird stuff, but it's impossible not to be influenced by what I read. Salvatore is thirty books into the life of Drizzt Do'Urden. Not complaining; I've read em' all. Dresden Files will be 23 (25?) books when completed. Game of Thrones will be... haha, I joke. Sorry.

Progress

I'm still progressing well on Book 3. Slow, but steady. I've pleased with the story. I expect to be close to 80,000 words by the weekend.

As a part of the Noblebright Alliance Discord group, I have the privilege of contributing a short story to the Story of the Quarter portfolio. Every quarter a story is released for members only to enjoy. Once we have a catalog of stories we will release them as an anthology. I'd like you to meet Gharra.
