Character friction

Why can't we all get along?
As I'm editing Book 3 of The Dragons of Dorwine I find myself surprised at how certain characters just don't get along. The antagonistic relationship between Anuka and Crenthys really comes to life in this third installment, and I love it! Their friction tells me (and the reader) so much about the characters. What do they value? What bothers them? What are their prejudices?
One of the great romance troupes—enemies to lovers—comes to mind. No, Anuka doesn't steal Crenthys from Kelios in Book 3... Or does he? Seriously, I thought of one of my favorite movies as a younker; The Cutting Edge. Doug Dorsey is a tough, working class hockey phenom that loses his shot at gold in that sport. He is forced to work with Kate Moseley, a temperamental, spoiled rich figure skater. All they have in common is a strong desire to win an Olympic Gold Medal, and a hatred for one another. BOOM! Cinema gold.
What antagonist relationships from book or film are your favorite? Wolverine and Cyclops? Riggs and Murtaugh? Let me know. I love hearing from y'all. jack@jackandalicia.com.
Progress
I'm blasting through edits on Act II of Book 3 (it has a name and you'll know it soon) and making needed changes. Once I'm done, my world-class editor will cause me a death by a thousand paper cuts as she makes my manuscript readable.
I was inspired by a conversation with a professional writer friend of mine to put my LitRPG story on the docket. There are three things in front of it, but it has come off the bench and grabbed a bat. This story gives me more energy than anything I've written and I can't wait to step back into that world.
