Why you probably should be taking magnesium

Magnesium is the only single mineral I recommend everyone supplement with, regardless of whether or not you know your tissue levels from an HTMA. Why?

  • its very hard to get from food
  • our soils are depleted of magnesium due to unsustainable farming practices like tilling and mono-cropping
  • our bodies burn through magnesium during times of stress, and let's face it, we live in a chronically stressed society
  • alcohol increases the excretion of magnesium through the kidneys, and many of us drink alcohol regularly

The importance of magnesium cannot be stressed enough. Here are just a few of the ways it benefits our health:

Magnesium & the brain:

  • decreases inflammation and protects the blood-brain barrier
  • increases cognitive function and prevents age-related cognitive decline
  • improves memory and reduces risk of dementia

Magnesium & the lungs:

  • low magnesium and potassium intakes are associated with lower lung function
  • relaxes smooth muscle and dilates bronchial rings

Magnesium & joint health:

  • prevents excess calcium from accumulating within cells and around joints
  • relaxes muscles and improves nerve signaling

Magnesium & the heart:

  • helps relax the arteries and regulates blood pressure
  • magnesium deficiency can cause hypertension and heart attacks

There are many forms of magnesium, so which one should you take?

Magnesium glycinate! The most absorbable form of magnesium.

I recommend magnesium from Wild and Well-Fed. What sets this product apart from the rest:

  • the ONLY supplement on the market without it being a blend
  • absolutely no fillers and additives
  • glass bottle instead of plastic (no micro-plastics leaching into the capsules)
  • easy to digest gelatin capsule vs cellulose capsules
  • calming, great for sleep and the nervous system

Keep in mind...we need adequate amounts of sodium and potassium to keep magnesium in the cell

  • eat potassium-rich foods, like potatoes, beets, coconut water, & aloe juice
  • add high-quality salt to your food and a pinch in your water
