THE MONDAY LEADOFF
Hi my friend 🫡
According to a Harvard study of more than 200 companies, a strong culture increases net income by 756%. Daniel Coyle argues that the three most important elements of a strong culture are building safety, sharing vulnerability, and establishing purpose.
Building Safety
- Make everyone feel included
- Have channels for easy communication
- Regularly show appreciation
- Address and manage negative behaviors promptly
Sharing Vulnerability
- Leaders share how they overcome their own challenges and weaknesses
- Implement regular feedback sessions
- Discuss what can be improved; instill a growth mindset
- "Us versus the problem, not us versus each other"
- Emphasize trust and teamwork
Establishing Purpose
- Highlight the team’s goals
- Discuss why the work toward the goal matters
- Post the team values where members can regularly see them
- Demand high standards from the team while providing the support needed to meet them
- Recognize individual achievements to foster shared success
- Recognize team achievements to foster unity

WHAT'S BEEN WORKING
1.
80/20 Rule (95/5)
The 80/20 rule, also known as the Pareto Principle, changed my life. It advocates for focusing on the 20% of efforts that yield 80% of results. Some go as far as saying that it should instead be called the 95/5 rule. In addition to inputs and output, it can be argued that 5% of things cause 95% of problems. Since discovering this in 2021, I've been trying to eliminate the things that cause the most problems while maximizing the inputs that yield the greatest results.

P.S. Next week we will look at metrics and measurement. What are you measuring as a coach to get the best results for your team?
