Meet Book Coach Katelin Cummings, take 2

Aug 04, 2023 3:55 pm

Thanks to Matt Schmidt for letting me know this morning's email went wonky. I'm not sure what happened. It looked fine on my end. However, let's try it again, shall we?

Let me introduce my friend, Katelin Cummings. Katelin is a fellow Guildie (aka member of the Catholic Writers Guild), but I know her from LegendFiction, where she leads writing sessions for 3-hours every Tuesday through Friday. Idol Speculations, which comes out this month is thanks to those sessions!

About Katelin

imageKatelin Cummins worked for fourteen years as an editor and content manager for a small nonprofit organization before becoming a certified fiction book coach in 2022. She loves using her project management and editorial skills to help writers achieve their goals. Her favorite genre to work with is fantasy because of the imaginative worlds, epic plots, relatable characters, and the feeling that nothing is impossible.

She is a mentor at the Legend Fiction online writing community for Catholic and Orthodox writers and is a member of the Catholic Writers Guild. When not helping other writers, she works on her own contemporary fantasy novel. She lives in Wisconsin with her husband and a Flemish Giant rabbit. Besides stories, she enjoys fishing, sailing, kayaking, hiking, and playing tabletop games.

Tell us about your writing

I’m working on revising a contemporary fantasy novel, Bound by Charcoal and Clay, about an artist who meets and falls in love with a muse spirit who can give her magical inspiration and artistic success, but the relationship turns out to be toxic.

I love the way a good story can capture my heart, allowing me to experience a new world and really feel along with the characters. Whenever I finish a book or movie like that, I feel inspired to try to craft a story that can have that kind of emotional effect.

What about book coaching?

A book coach is a mentor, project manager, encourager, and editor. Most editors work with the text only, while a book coach also works with the writer throughout the creative process.

I help writers plan, write, revise, and finish their books through supportive, encouraging coaching, feedback, and project management, so they can achieve their goal of writing the book that's on their heart to write. I offer accountability groups, guidance on planning a novel or revising, and manuscript evaluations.

I became a book coach because I enjoy helping another writer meet their writing goals even more than I enjoy working on my own novel.

I’m certified as a fiction book coach through Author Accelerator and working toward adding nonfiction and memoir certification.
