What’s New in FabianSpace

The past weekend, I again went to Maui Girl in Cocoa Beach to commit comedy with my friend, Jessica Ann. I had a new routine that involved Florida Man and gaters. I’m thinking if I add it to a previous South Vs Florida and Buccees bits I have, I might have a solid 10 minutes. What do I do with it?

I’d really love to do some comedy for a dedicated audience, maybe mixing it with teaching or inspirational stuff. But I’m moving slowly because so much is going on in life. After all, Family and Fiction come before Comedy.

Speaking of, I’ll be in Puerto Rico with my sister and parents visiting my mom’s side of our family. It should be a good time, and an interesting one as I have forgotten all my Spanish thanks to disuse. No, none of that will become comedy for performing because I made a promise early on not to use my family in my routines.

Space Traipse: Hold My Beer 6 Behind the Stories

This week, I’m going to give you a little behind-the-scenes about two of the stories in Space Traipse 6

Doall’s Brain

Probably the most panned story in Original Trek, “Spock’s Brain” is lovable for its campiness. Remote Control Spock is a riot. I originally planned for them to steal Commander Deary’s liver for waste management (because he’s so good at drinking), which is why, in the story, Saphirra hesitates over him. But he’d probably be fine with a transplant, so Doall’s brain it is!

Why hers? Well, if you read Doall’s Do-Over, you know that her mind was trained from an early age to expertly multitask, using the best of Human instinct and Logic technique. Plus, it was fun making the colony react to her emotions!

Speaking of fun, Doc Sorcha as a dominatrix was amazing! I laughed so hard writing it. Plus, she always makes the best use of her photonic nature.

This one was first published in 2020 in the anthology Overmorrow: Stories of Our Bright Future, but this volume was the perfect time for a reprint because she’ll have something in common with Todd’s friend, Brandon. (What? Well, get ST:HMB 6 and see!)

Motherclucker

Like I said last week, I love finding stories for peripheral characters. Minion LeRoy Jenkins is, of course, a spoof on the LeRoy Jenkins of Internet fame, so he had to have a thing for chickens. So when Cracked: An Anthology of Eggsellent Chicken Stories was looking for submissions, I knew his time had come.

I’d long wanted to do ST:TOS “Devil in the Dark,” and what better way than with giant chickens!

I didn’t want to involve the rest of the Impulsive in the adventure, though. LeRoy had come to the ship with his experience already, so a campfire story was the perfect setting.
