What’s New in FabianSpace
I’ve been told that I should be posting at least once a week, so I’m going to try to institute Fabian Fridays. I totally understand if you don’t want to read so much every week, so I’ll include a TL:DR from now on with highlights!
It seems I’ve been lying to myself (or maybe I should blame my friends) but I went and did stand up again. This time was at Maui Girl, a cute little restaurant that my friend, Jessica Ann, packed with her local friends. So I told everyone I was her opening act. It was an interesting experience because I was the only one who had a memorized routine. The others were there trying out new material, so they would read (or check) jokes from their papers or phones, then tell it and note the results. Overall, it was a good time, and it’s definitely a place I’ll be going back to. You can find it and my graduation routine on my YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/c/KarinaFabian
Cover Reveal
I have the next Space Traipse cover! Isn’t it striking? Dawn made the alien ship. I may be able to get the next book published soon.
Meet Susan Lapse
I’d like to introduce you to my friend, Susan Lapse. She writes historical fantasy – how fun is that? She’s got three out in her Rise of the Charioteer series.
Tell us a little about yourself:
Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, I spent my summers riding my bike to and from the local library to borrow my favorite books and movies. The push to create my own stories was influenced by reading and watching the Grimm’s Fairy Tales and the Percy Jackson book series, as well as a love of history (my favorite subject in school). I received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and taught elementary school for a short time. When not writing or working, you can find me doing arts and crafts projects and scrounging around the pantry for chocolate. I live with my husband, plants, and computer in St. Louis, Missouri.
Tell us about the series:
I write historical fantasy novels. My first ever published novels, The Rise of the Charioteer series, is set in mid-fourteenth century England with a strong incorporation of Roman mythology. The second book in the series was just published in August 2022, and I hope to have the third book (out of four or five) out by the end of this year or early 2024.
Why historic fantasy?
I began writing the series as a fairy-tale-inspired story with witches and magic, but put it aside for several years. When I began to write it again, I think I had just read some Percy Jackson books and remembered how much I’d love to write a story incorporating mythology, specifically Greek mythology. But when I went to write my story, which takes place in England, I discovered all of their mythology is either Roman or Celtic/European. And, since the Romans stole all the Greek stories and merely renamed all the gods and monsters into Latin, it was pretty easy for me to switch up the names and it all worked out. The books are so much fun to write, and if you ask me, I think my favorite character is the witty comedy relief. :)
