Book sale, book review, busy-busy-busy

TL:DR

What’s New in FabianSpace

I’m trying to remember if I have ever had a year that moved slowly. This one, however, seems to be the busiest I’ve had in a long time. We just got back from visiting my son and his wife in Panama City. He’s newly commissioned and starting his first assignment at Tyndall AFB. We loaded my dad’s truck with all the stuff we’ve been storing for them and hauled it over. It was a right of passage for them and us!

At the end of this month, I’ll be going with my parents and sister to Puerto Rico, so Mom can celebrate her 84th birthday with her sisters. Then at the end of May, I have the Catholic Writers Conference Live in Chicago.

Plus I took on a new client for my business writing, which means I’m exploring the exciting world of small business finance.

All this means I’m scrambling to keep up with writing, but I do have a flash fiction coming soon, plus the Space Traipse. I’m going as fast as I can!

Nun of My Business on Sale Through April 13

In honor of Siren Spell being out and Nun of My Business getting an excellent review by Catholic Reads, I’m selling the ebook for 99 cents. If you’ve not nabbed the story of how Vern and Grace met, this is the time!

When a Faerie nun shoves a piece of music under Vern’s nose and insists it’s an evil spell, he has some doubts as to her mental stability. But work is scarce for a dragon detective on the wrong side of the Interdimensional Gap, and if Sister Grace McCarthy wants to pay his bills for a wild goose chase, who is he to argue? Unfortunately, Vern is not the only one with concerns about Grace’s sanity. When a child accuses the nun of hexing her voice, the city is in an uproar, and Vern has to uncover the truth – for Grace, for himself, and for the fate of the Faerie and Mundane universes.

Is the song just annoying? Or is it a summoning spell from the depths of hell? And how does a shell-shocked nun who refuses to sing fit in the equation – and Vern’s life?

“A must-read for established fans and a great place for new readers to start. Despite being laugh-out-loud funny most of the way through, Nun of My Business also touches on the serious theme of PTSD and trauma. Even the strong, it is made very clear, can be overwhelmed by their demons—literal or figurative. The importance of love and support in such circumstances are made very clear. Friendship is also an important theme. Vern’s draconic point of view allows Fabian to critique human nature in an insightful way.” – Corinna Turner, Catholic Reads

This fully updated edition includes the new help you need from managing gender pronouns to maximizing the usefulness of front and back matter. Altogether, The Frugal Editor now provides 50% more information designed for the success of your title.

My Review

I don’t read a lot of writing books anymore. (Instead, if I have a question, I Google it.) but Carolyn is a friend, and I thought The Frugal Book Promoter had excellent advice. This one does, too.

Carolyn takes you step-by-step through self-editing, from how to set up your word processing program (She uses Word) to the nit-noids and gotchas of writing like the different dashes and their uses. She tells you how to best find and correct errors and gives sound advice peppered with suggestions from experts and stories of her own vast experience.

I found a couple of things outdated, but technology moves fast, and I knew most of what she was advising. However, I did find a few gems for common mistakes I make and a couple of shortcuts I can use.

I recommend The Frugal Editor for beginning and beginner-to-intermediate writers who want to do line editing on their own.
