Hello, phenomenal Fellowship!

This week, here's what I have for you:

  • Personal update
  • Writing progress
  • Deals & discounts
  • Teaser excerpt from A Queen's Command [Warning: Spoiler if you haven't read A King's Bargain yet!]

Personal Update

The autumn colors are quickly dissipating in many areas in Colorado, so my fiancée and I ventured out to try and snap some photos while they lasts. While we saw plenty of golden aspens on our drive, the location for our hike was a bit past its peak. But so it goes!

We still glimpsed some beautiful golden grass, and a smoky sky lent some atmospheric conditions even in the middle of the day.

In more bookish news, my pre-release readers for A Queen's Command got the book a couple weeks ago, and I heard back from the first one this week! She finished it and seems to have quite enjoyed it. It's wonderful to hear as October 26th grows nearer!

Lastly, I neglected to show off the 100th review for A King's Bargain last week! Technically, the 100th was a rating, but here was the last review left just before reaching 100 - by Theodore the Third (which is quite the regal name, if I do say so):

★★★★★ - A most pleasant surprise
Having never heard of the author, and the book not having many reviews, I figured I'd take a gamble and see how it was. Wow. A masterfully crafted adventure indeed. The plot moves along at a brisk pace, with none of the bloat often scene in this genre. The world is well fleshed out, with just the right amount of questions answered and those still left unknown. The characters are interesting, and it was easy to invest myself in their journey. Cannot wait for Book 2!

Thanks to Theodore and everyone else who has left a rating or review! We've snuck up to 114 now. It's much appreciated if you have a moment to review if you haven't already!

On Writing...

I've had quite the productive week! First off, I finished up one of the last major drafts of Frozen Throne. Before too long - a week or two, I'm anticipating - I'll start releasing the serialization draft onto Wattpad! Stay tuned for that.

While Frozen Throne is marinating, I dove back into the next Legend of Tal book - An Emperor's Gamble! I came up with some fresh ideas for Garin in particular, which made me excited to get back to Tal and Garin's adventures. Also, since I'm in Book 3 of what's planned to be a tetralogy, the events are inevitably swirling toward the central questions and conflict - always a fun place to be heading!

A Queen's Command: An Excerpt [SPOILER FOR A KING'S BARGAIN]

Here's a little exchange near the beginning of the book between Tal and Aelyn. Warning: if you haven't read A King's Bargain yet, you probably don't want to keep reading!

By the time Tal found him, Aelyn was already sitting on top of his wooden shelter, his porridge half-eaten, his expression of distinct dissatisfaction growing sourer when he looked up to see who had arrived.

"So you decided you've frivoled away your time long enough, pretending to be princes and poets, have you?" the mage observed with a smirk.

Tal grinned as he sat next to him. "I doubt I'll ever have enough of acting the prince. It fits me just as the curmudgeon fits you."

Aelyn snorted. Lifting a spoonful of porridge, he dripped it back into his bowl. "Peer to the Realm, Emissary to the Queen, and a Master of the Onyx Tower," he griped, "and I am forced to eat this."

"I don't remember you complaining about our fare on the way from Hunt's Hollow."

"Then, we made speed, not dragged on each interminable day to its breaking point."

Tal clapped Aelyn on the shoulder. "Patience, my traitorous friend. We'll arrive at your beloved Queen's capital soon enough."

"Traitor, am I?" He irritably shrugged off his hand. "Because I chained a stray dog to his hunt?"

Tal felt the smile leave his eyes, even as it remained perched on his lips. "I don't know what you chained me to, Aelyn. But I'm very interested to find out."

The mage's gaze lingered on his, then he looked off into the snow-dusted woods, his spoon stirring in his bowl. "I am no traitor, Harrenfel. Not even to you. Before long, you'll understand that."

Tal ate and let the silence speak for him.
