The First Ancestor's cover + what to expect from the campaign
Jan 27, 2023 8:00 pm
Hey there, Kickstarter crowd!
Less than a week now until The First Ancestor launches on Kickstarter! Once again, that official date is February 1st. I'll email to let you know once it's live, but you can find out the second it happens by following the campaign.
Now, to an exciting order of business...
The First Ancestor has a cover!
I'm pleased to show off the final cover for the book! Once more, it's been expertly made by Félix Ortiz and Shawn T. King. It's going to be a joy to hold! Hope you like it, too.
Tweaks to the campaign
I've made some changes to the campaign since The Last Ranger's, which I'll detail below in case you're interested. Nothing too dramatic, I don't think, but I like to be as transparent as I can!
Tier pricing
I've adjusted most of the physical tiers' pricing, sometimes to the upfront amount, sometimes to the shipping cost. Some unanticipated costs in the previous campaign (like packaging materials, rate increase, etc.) makes things more expensive than I originally estimated. If there was a shipping cost increase, it was usually around $2-5.
The upfront price changes were mostly to adjust for additional items in the tier. For example, the backlist tiers now have two additional books in them, so they saw corresponding increases.
The ebook tiers remain unchanged since the expenses associated with those are fairly predictable.
More books available internationally
For the previous campaign, I limited what books were available internationally to reduce uncertainty. Now, as I'm fairly sure I have a grasp on the costs, I'm making them all available!
Like last time, books will be signed via bookplate, which I'll send separately for you to adhere to the books. This is currently my best method of shipping books outside the US, but if that doesn't work for you, I'm looking into other options for future campaigns.
The Last Ranger availability
With The Last Ranger now on retailers, the ebook edition is no longer available through Kickstarter. The reason why is it's locked into an exclusivity contract with Amazon (which allows it to be part of its Kindle Unlimited program), meaning I can't distribute it anywhere else. The audiobook is similarly locked into Audible.
The print versions, however, are still available in case you didn't snag one last time.
More prints available
I now have prints of the world map and some of the art from this second book available in addition to the prints from the previous campaign. These new ones are larger, with two being 8"x11" and the map being 18"x12.75".
New tiers
There are a couple of new reward tiers in which you'll be able to get the add-ons bundled in—namely, all the prints and the books in various formats. Keep an eye out for the "Ultimate Ranger Bundle" and the "Everything! All of It!" tiers if that sounds intriguing.
No longer doing numbered editions
Though I liked the idea of doing numbered editions, I will no longer be offering them for the Ranger of the Titan Wilds books. This is because it's too difficult managing two different versions, especially when I'm dropshipping books internationally. I hope that's not too disappointing to anyone and you can understand!
Wrap-up
I *think* that covers it all. If you made it this far, here's a reminder again to follow the campaign. Just so you don't miss out on those Early Bird discounts!
You'll hear from me more when The First Ancestor launches next week. Until then, take care!
