Happy Thanksgiving: A Celebration of Gratitude Across Time
Nov 28, 2024 7:15 pm
Salve ,
As we gather to celebrate Thanksgiving, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the timeless tradition of giving thanks for the harvest—a practice that connects us to cultures across history.
Did you know that the ancient Romans had their own version of Thanksgiving? It was called the Cerialia, a festival dedicated to Ceres, the goddess of agriculture. Much like our Thanksgiving, the Cerialia was a time to express gratitude for the bounty of the harvest. While we enjoy turkey and pumpkin pie, the Romans celebrated with public feasts, sacrifices, and theatrical performances, highlighting the importance of agriculture in their society.
Both Thanksgiving and the Cerialia emphasize gratitude and community, reminding us of the enduring values that bring people together, no matter the era or culture.
As we enjoy this special day with family and friends, let's appreciate the rich history of giving thanks and the connections it fosters. Wishing you a joyful and bountiful Thanksgiving!
Felix dies gratitudinis vobis sit!
