On New Year’s Day, people often think about changes or resolutions. For me, it’s a time to count my blessings. One of my writer’s groups suggests setting goals for the upcoming year. These goals always include the books we plan to write. Then, in the following December, we review what we accomplished

at one of our meetings. The second meeting of the month is usually PARTY TIME!

For 2025, my blessings include family, especially the four-legged contingent. Granted, Lucky Charm and his cousin, Nevada seem to think they’re equine bulldozers especially if they’ve been locked in the barn on snow days. Luckily, we haven’t had any of those in western Washington State yet, but there’s been

plenty of rain instead. I’ll be repairing and rebuilding the fences they trashed.

Yes, I should be angry or frustrated with them, but I’ve had Charm since he was four months old. He’ll be 20 this year and hopefully, we’ll have many more years together. I had his foster mom until she was 40 something. Nevada was born here – the only horse I’ve ever known that actually was born on New Years’ Day. Yes, horses have actual birthdays – not always the ones that breed registries use.

Another blessing is Paladin, my rescue Australian Cattle Dog. He turned six at Christmas. Due to the trauma and abuse he suffered as a puppy before I got him, he’s still hyper-vigilant especially where men are concerned. He dashes into his humongous kennel when the ranch-hands come to work, has a

gourmet chew stick and spends the day barking at them if they come near the house. As soon as they leave at night, he’s loose to guard the ranch from wildlife – four-legged and two!

As for goals, this year I have books galore to write, at least five in my Josie series, two for Baker City, one for my new contemporary series and two for Liberty Valley. I also do Young Adult, and I have more books to write for those two series. Thankfully, Amber, my Virtual Assistant has promised to be available

for all the social media stuff so I can meet those book deadlines. It’s going to be a good reading time for you and a good writing time for me in 2025!

January Book Recommendation

image

The book is a good, and enjoyable paranormal western romance read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. The story is a good read that combined the present with the past read. The Josie Malone writes a seamlessly weaves of family drama, mystery, and touching romance into The Hero Spell read.

The middle sister of the Jamison triplets, Meteor has different magickal talents than her sisters. As a shapeshifter, she struggles to deal with the soul-matched mate who she believes killed her in previous lives and fears he may do it again. After the triplets open a time portal to 1888 Liberty Valley, Meteor never expected two trained wizards to travel forward through the magick doorway. They reunite her with the young son she asked them to protect before her death in that bygone time.

Wizard and shifter in more than one life, Jed Corbett struggles to survive when his soulmate is murdered more than once, and he’s often unjustly accused of her death. Two former friends from 1888 offer to help him discover the truth and deal with an age-old enemy.

Nothing is as it seems when Jed and Meteor challenge her demon father who they blame for continuing a war that began eons ago. They also fear he plans to sacrifice their young children in blood rituals. With the help of allies in 1888 Liberty Valley as well as those of today, Meteor and Jed confront their adversaries.

imageThe holidays are the best time of the year in Baker City, Washington especially when the town ghosts, led by newcomer, Army Ranger Moises Pride decide to wreak havoc and do their own version of A Christmas Carol. They’ll attempt to redeem Nick MacGillicudy, the incompetent horseshoer who’s been hurting two and four-legged folks for years. He needs a lesson not only in manners, but also in empathy and what the haunts consider decency.

Along the way, they’ll also help Kyra O’Neill, local riding instructor find love, light and happiness with a ‘real man’. Orphaned at a young age, Derek Waller found a new life in the US Army. Thirty years later, he’s ready for something more than camos and combat boots. A home of his own in Baker City won’t be complete without the woman who runs the pool table in the cocktail lounge at Pop’s Café and defeats him on a regular basis.

There’s no place like home for the holidays in Baker City – thank heaven! And it’s Merry Ghostmas to one and all!
