When 4 am timing

Dear ,

Sometimes, the bravest thing we do is simply begin.

I remember waking up at 4 AM in a small hotel room in Georgetown, Guyana. The world outside was still cloaked in darkness, and inside, I felt a mix of uncertainty and fear. A journey awaited me—one I wasn’t sure I was ready for. I had to cross the Essequibo River. As a Jamaican, many of us are afraid of large bodies of water (even though we're surrounded by the Caribbean Sea!) The Essequibo is 20 miles wide, runs about 630 miles and I'm not sure how deep, but deep enough to take small seagoing vessels.

But as I sat there, I realized something: taking that first step, no matter how small, was the most important thing I could do.

Maybe you’re standing at the edge of your own journey right now—facing a decision, a hope, or a pain you’ve been carrying. It’s okay to feel uncertain. It’s okay to feel scared. What matters is that you’re here, considering the possibility of change.

On that trip, one of our members forgot his luggage. This led to delays that had repercussions later on. But, as we waited we chose not to scold him, but instead to connect with each other. This delay in plans led to the most unexpected and meaningful conversations with fellow travelers—people I wouldn’t have met otherwise. It reminded me that timing isn’t everything. Healing doesn’t have a schedule. Whether you’ve held this pain for days, months, or years, it’s never too late to take the first step.

If you’re ready to begin—or even just to talk about beginning—I’m here to listen. No judgment. No rush. Just a safe space.
