Hi ,

I hope the new year is treating you well.

Last month's giveaway winner is Lalita at n2 ... ch at gmail dot com. If this is you, you should have received your gift card by now.

Now that The Lost Assassin is finished, I'm turning my focus over to my other projects. This year, I'm tentatively planning to publish Once upon a Betrothal in April and Princess of Hope in August. If nothing goes wrong with my timelines, I should be able to publish one more book late this year.

Right now, I'm leaning toward making Iris' story, tentatively titled Once upon a Stepmother, be my last book of the year. However, I'm strongly considering making this one be the start of a different, connected, series instead of being part of my Once upon a Story series. My biggest reason for this is because her story involves some darker elements and I think trigger warnings will be necessary for me to write it properly. This is a book I've been thinking about since before I published Once upon a Shoe. I hinted at some of her trauma in that book, but her book would need to go into details. I'm thinking of making the series name something similar, but something that indicates it won't be quite as light as my other stories.

I can already say that writing it will be an emotional challenge for me. I don't talk about or focus on the darker parts of my past much, but my concept of Iris' backstory draws heavily from some of my darker places in life. Of course, I made her backstory much worse than my own.

Iris' story will be unique in another way. I plan to donate 100% of any profits the book makes to one or more charities for abuse victims. If you know of any good ones, please let me know because I plan to be doing some research before I'm done with it.

I plan to do as much as possible with producing audiobooks as well this year. If all goes according to plan, I'll be meeting with my friend later this month to start recording Once upon a Rose. After the first session, I should get a relative idea on what would be a realistic schedule to plan on.

I'm still working through the email marketing course. At this point, I'm thinking I can start changing the schedule of these emails next month. Since you are already on my list, you will be grandfathered into the one to two times monthly schedule unless you have indicated you want to hear from me more often. The only change for those of you who stay monthly will be that I'll switch to the first Thursday of each month.

For this month's giveaway of a $5 Amazon gift card, hit reply and give me some feedback about my upcoming plans.

Sales, Freebies, and/or New Releases

The Lost Assassin will be out tomorrow. For now, it's still at the preorder price of $0.99, but it will be going soon.

After The Lost Assassin releases tomorrow, I'll be pulling The Fox Assassin from KU, so you'll have roughly 3 months to add it to your KU downloads if you want to read it for free.

Writing Snippet from The Lost Assassin

Seeming to sense that she was back, Z14 barged into her room moments after she arrived. His hurried entrance sent her back arching, fur bristling despite recognizing him immediately. Her cat instincts weren’t entirely under her control, especially when startled.

“What took you so long?” Z14 asked.

Changing back to her human form to respond, Luna said, “How do you know I didn’t just finish the job?” Evasion was pointless, but she was too stubborn to not at least try.

“We received confirmation of the kill hours ago. You should have been back sooner.”

Luna shrugged, feigning nonchalance. “I had a few mishaps after the mission.”

Z14 sighed. “If you’re not careful, you will end up dead. The Director is out of patience for you.”

“I’m trying to control it.” Guilt churned in her gut. She doubted his concern was entirely for her sake. Although her statement was true, she could never manage to gain control. Every attempt she made to prevent her powers from glitching always ended in failure.

imageSpurred by Memories by Joy Rendall

Pregnant and alone. Bull riders and their arrogance. Promises broken. Truths untold.

Here he is … in my flower shop and he acts like he doesn’t know me.

Why is he here?

I thought he loved me.

I am so over him. He will never know the truth, he doesn’t deserve to know.

Why didn’t my brother tell me Stetson was in town?

Why does my heart turn when I see him? I loved him.

His broad shoulders and sun kissed skin, and chiseled jawline pull on my heart.

And those deep penetrating blue eyes draw me in closer.

Then the party.

We got locked in the basement, forced into proximity and conversation.

I will not give in

But I found his gaze piercing into my heart.

Our love forgotten… but he is slowly remembering

He has a daughter… and he is unaware

Then a photo sparks a memory

My biggest secret… but he left us…and I will never tell
