Ubuntu Basketball Newsletter – The Magic of 88

Celebrating Wins Through Unity and Hard Work!

As we step into December, there’s no better way to kick off the month than by celebrating the incredible victories of Amsterdam Apollo MSE3 and MSE5, two teams I proudly guide and lead. Both teams showcased their grit, resilience, and ability to unify under pressure, securing blowout wins on November 30th, both scoring an impressive 88 points. These wins are not just about the scorelines; they are a testament to how working together with clarity, decisiveness, and shared responsibility can produce remarkable results.

MSE3: A Victory Built on Defense and Unity

Against the league leaders, Hoppers (Hoorn), the MSE3 team made a statement. Every player on the court played for each other, embodying the values of hard work, decisiveness, and aggression. The defense was relentless: every contested shot, every loose ball, and every rebound was fought for with determination. Months of practicing tactical plays and learning through Constraints-Led Approach (CLA) principles came together beautifully.

The result? A dominant win where our Shooting Guard dropped a staggering 33 points, including 8 three-pointers, proving unstoppable from beyond the arc. It wasn’t just individual brilliance, though—it was a team effort, unified by a shared vision and trust in one another.

MSE5: A Cohesive Display with Only 6 Players

Similarly, the MSE5 team faced Akrides MSE3, a strong shooting opponent, with just 6 players available. Despite the odds, they rose to the challenge by sticking to the principles we’ve been working on all season.

MSE5’s success wasn’t just luck; it was the result of players learning to gel quickly despite roster changes, leaning on small-sided games and system-based training to build cohesion. The team’s ability to create and convert three-point opportunities was key. Strategic positioning, quick ball movement, and decisiveness allowed our wing player and primary ball handler to knock down critical shots.

These wins reflect the essence of Ubuntu Basketball: clarity, decisiveness, teamwork, and learning through engaging, modern methodologies.

How Does This Tie Into the February Camp?

Both MSE3 and MSE5 have shown that mastering the game doesn’t come from traditional drills—it comes from understanding how to play as a cohesive unit, making clear decisions, and learning through realistic, game-like situations. These same principles will be at the heart of the Ubuntu Basketball February Camp.

At this camp, players will engage in:

  • Constraints-Led Approach (CLA): A modern training method that replicates game scenarios to improve decision-making and creativity.
  • Small-Sided Games: Learn how to create space, attack gaps, and find effective spots on the court to maximize scoring opportunities.
  • Fun and Effective Learning: Training doesn’t need to feel rigid. At the February Camp, we’ll ensure players learn through engaging, competitive drills that prepare them for the modern game.

This camp isn’t just about technical improvement—it’s about teaching players how to think the game, play decisively, and work together to achieve success, all while having fun on the court.
