back with some more golden insight

In our journey through understanding blood tests, we’ve explored the Complete Blood Count (CBC), the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)

This week, we turn our attention to the Thyroid Panel, a test critical for assessing your metabolic and hormonal health

Key Markers & Functional Ranges

TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)

  • Functional Range: 1–2.5 µU/mL
  • Elevated TSH suggests an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), while low levels may indicate an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism).

Free T4 (Thyroxine)

  • Functional Range: 1.16–1.47 ng/dL
  • Measures the available thyroid hormone in your blood. Low levels can indicate hypothyroidism.

Free T3 (Triiodothyronine)

  • Functional Range: 3.4–4.4 pg/mL
  • Reflects the active thyroid hormone available for energy production and metabolism. Low levels may signal poor thyroid function.

T3 Uptake

  • Functional Range: 27–35%
  • Helps assess how much thyroid hormone is being utilized.

Reverse T3

  • Functional Range: 10–25 ng/dL
  • High levels may indicate stress or chronic illness, affecting your body’s ability to use thyroid hormones efficiently.

TPO Antibodies (Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies)

  • Functional Range: 0–6.8 IU/mL
  • Elevated levels can indicate autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

What This Means for You

Your thyroid regulates your metabolism, energy, and mood. Imbalances in thyroid hormones can cause fatigue, weight changes, or mood disturbances. Regular monitoring of these markers ensures your thyroid is functioning optimally.

How to Support Thyroid Health

  • Ensure adequate intake of iodine, selenium, and zinc, which are critical for thyroid hormone production.
  • Manage stress, as chronic stress can disrupt thyroid function.
  • Discuss any abnormal results with a healthcare provider for personalized guidance.

Up Next

In our next email, we’ll explore the Lipid panel, which is vital for understanding energy levels, oxygen transport, and overall vitality.
