I know what you want


YOU WANT TO BE HAPPY


Who doesn't?


When we are on a running or fitness journey we usually have an end point in mind


10km in under 45mins


50 push ups in one go


Cycle 25 miles without stopping


Whatever it is, there is a definite finish line


An attainable goal


This is a good thing, and my opinion is that we should all have a slightly ambitious goals


One that pushes us just a bit further than where we are currently


One that stretches our abilities into new territories


One that challenges and CHANGES us in some way


This is a worthy goal


But I'll tell you a secret


When you attain that goal


You won't be happy


You might feel elation for a short period of time


You SHOULD!


Because I know what it takes to attain an ambitious goal


You've expended a ton of energy to get there


and you deserve that feeling of joy and elation


Huge kudos to you


You certainly earned it


But it is short lived


How do we become happy then?


HAPPINESS IS IN THE JOURNEY


That's the secret


Choose to be happy everyday


Every dam day you should choose happiness


This is what leads to long term feelings of satisfaction


This is what leads to a life where you feel like you can achieve anything


When you are happier, things come easier in life


The sessions come easier


The energy is more abundant


The outlook is clearer


People tend to put happiness against a condition


I'll be happy when......


I'll be happy when I get under 45 mins for 10km


I'll be happy when I can do 50 push ups


I'll be happy when I can ride my bike for 25 miles without stopping


This doesn't work and unnecessarily sets us up for failure


Choose happiness as a default


That's the win


Lastly, remember this


Happiness doesn't come to you


It comes FROM you
