Did God’s entrance into the garden caused Adam and Eve to hide? No. Their guilty consciences caused them to hide. They had transgresses the one commandment God had given them. They could not live up to His law. He had clearly spoken and they had blatantly disobeyed. Their transgression was damaging to them, to creation, to their relationship to God and it will continue its damaging effect until all creation is recreated. That is sobering.
What about your sin? What effect does it have? Your sin damages your relationship to God and others. Your sin harms creation. Your sin has a generational negative impact. Your sin is also sobering.
As you feel you are being tempted, take the time to recall the scriptures that direct you away from the temptation. Spend the time to write out the consequences of giving into the temptation. Take time to pray for protection and strength to resist. Call a friend and ask them to pray with you. Isolation is one of the enemies best tactics for leading you into sin. Finally, thank the Lord for His help and strength when you do not fall into sin.
This Sunday I will be preaching on temptation from Luke 4. I encourage you to Join us at Redemption Valley Church 9am Sunday Jan 5th.
