The First Draft of the Children of the Gods: 100% complete!
I've been talking vaguely about Children of the Gods all year, but it has consumed my writing life, and I am incredibly proud of it, even in its rough draft form.
In truth, I hoped to finish it up about a month ago, but between moving house twice this year, a Kickstarter this fall, and the fact that this book wound up about 80 pages longer than I initially thought it would, it simply needed more time to fully develop.
But after a marathon week, in which I wrote the final 10k words in two days, we got it to the finish line. Of the first leg of the race.
Children of the Gods is my ninth novel (eighth that will be published) and is officially my longest book at 143k words, or 582 pages in Word.
And I expect it will get a bit longer in edits. Because, well, that's what always happens with my books. By the time I send it to my editor in February, I expect it'll wind up around 620 pages or something.
In the scheme of fantasy books, it's pretty standard in length actually, but still, when it's your new personal record, that feels like a feat.
I'm tired, but excited to shift gears into editing mode over the next several weeks and whip this book into something readable.
You can expect a lot more news early in the New Year. The cover illustration is done, and the actual cover design just got underway. And I guess it's about time a write a blurb for it too.
