What Do You Do When Your Inner Critic Won't Shut Up?

Hey there,

You know that voice?

The one that shows up right after you hit send on a business changing email.

Or just before you raise your rates, launch a new offer, or post something that feels a little too bold.

đź’¬ It whispers things like:

“Who do you think you are?”

“Someone’s going to figure out you don’t really know what you’re doing.”

“This is the moment it all falls apart.”

That voice?

It lies.

I know because I hear it too.

A few months ago, I sent an email to my clients letting them know I’d be raising my rates in 2025. I’ve been in business 17 years. I’ve got the receipts, the results, and the resilience. And still—that voice showed up like it had VIP access to my brain.

It told me I’d lose clients. That they’d think I wasn’t worth the higher rates. That I was pushing my luck.

And what actually happened?

Not a single client left.

Turns out, they respect me. They trust me. They value the work I do.

But that voice didn’t know that—because that voice doesn’t operate in truth. It runs on old stories. Childhood rules. Cultural noise. Patriarchy. Perfectionism. People-pleasing. Fear.

It feels convincing.

But it’s not honest.

So what do you do when the voice won’t shut up?

You don’t wait for it to disappear.

You stop giving it the microphone.🎤

Here’s what’s helped me (and might help you too):

  • Name it. Literally say: “Oh, that’s my inner critic again.” Giving it a name—even a silly one—can help you separate it from your truth.
  • Check the facts. Ask yourself: “What’s actually happening?” Look for evidence. If the story in your head doesn’t match the reality, it’s probably fear in disguise.
  • Interrupt the loop. Move your body. Say something out loud. Take one small action that your inner critic wouldn’twant you to take.
  • Talk back. This one’s my favorite. Imagine what your best friend would say to that voice. Now say that—with extra sass if needed.

Because here’s what is true:

âś“ You can be damn good at what you do and still feel like a fraud sometimes.

âś“ You can have experience and still get shaky.

✓ You can show up with confidence—even while that voice heckles you from the back row.

And you don’t have to deal with it alone.

More on that soon.
