Hi ,


If I had to choose between the slice and kick delivery for my second serve, I would definitely go with the former.


The slice serve keeps the ball low after the bounce, forcing the opponent to hit upward. This makes it ideal for setting up a first volley if the server moves to the net. Also, the side-spin effect can be used strategically to open the court for an aggressive second shot.


That said, I just posted a new video that you can watch for free. This is how I teach the slice serve:

Bonus lesson:


I often see players taking a big swing to create power on the volley.


However, this approach sacrifices control and accuracy.


My solution is to generate most of the power by using body weight in the shot, as I explain to my daughter in this video:
