Struggling with Motivation? Here’s What to Do

Dec 22, 2024 3:00 am

We’ve all been there—those days when the thought of hitting the gym feels monumental.

First, let me remind you that it’s normal to occasionally feel unmotivated. But the key is knowing how to push through those moments without letting them derail your progress.

Here are a few simple steps to try when you’re struggling with gym motivation:

1. Shift Your Mindset

Instead of thinking, “I have to work out,” reframe it as, “I get to work out.” Training is a privilege, not a chore. Moving your body is a way to invest in yourself, your health, and your future.

2. Focus on the Small Wins

You don’t have to crush a personal best every time. Commit to just showing up. Even a light session or a quick 20-minute workout is better than nothing and helps maintain momentum.

3. Use Your "Why"

Remember why you started. Is it to feel more confident, have more energy, or be there for your family? Keeping your deeper purpose in mind can give you the boost you need.

4. Change It Up

Sometimes a lack of motivation comes from boredom. Try a new workout, listen to a fresh playlist, or train outdoors to spice things up.

5. Lean on Accountability

Tell a friend, coach, or workout partner how you’re feeling. Having someone to check in with can be a great motivator.

6. Reward Yourself

Set up small rewards for completing workouts—a post-gym smoothie, an episode of your favorite show, or even just the satisfaction of ticking it off your to-do list.

Remember, motivation doesn’t have to come first. Action often leads to motivation, not the other way around. Once you take the first step, the rest becomes easier.

If you ever need extra support or someone to hold you accountable, I’m just an email away. Let’s keep moving forward together!
