The Power of Discipline: What's Your Pre-Workout Ritual?

The other night, I reconnected with someone from high school. The funny thing is, we never actually spoke back then.
You might not know this, but I was a pretty shy and reserved kid in high school. The weight room became my escape—a place where I could process the world and deal with my struggles.
Finding a positive outlet is crucial for those of us who weren’t taught how to manage negative emotions. For me, it was the weight room and the dojo—hands down the best places to channel that energy.
During our conversation, this gentleman told me he admired the authenticity in my content and my relentless "get-it-done" attitude. He said my words have kept him accountable.
Here’s the kicker: This guy works 12-14 hour days. Yet, when he gets home, he doesn’t let exhaustion win. He downs a pre-workout, crushes a session at home, and then settles down on the couch. That’s discipline.
It got me thinking about how some people just get it while others feel stuck, searching for purpose. What I’ve realized is this: purpose comes from within. It’s about uncovering your limiting beliefs and breaking through them.
So, I want to challenge you: Create a pre-workout ritual.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. Maybe it’s:
- Listening to a pump-up playlist.
- Sipping on a pre-workout drink.
- Watching my rants about refusing to be soft.
Whatever it is, make it yours. A ritual creates momentum, and momentum keeps you disciplined—even on the tough days.
I’d love to hear what your pre-training ritual looks like!
To your success,
Coach Monty
