Are You Ready to let go of your anxiety?

Sep 30, 2022 6:17 pm

Dear ,

Both yesterday and today, I woke feeling anxious. My mind immediately sought reasons. It had plenty to choose from: dizzying inflation, a plummeting stock market, the November elections, political extremists, the continuing threat of Covid, hurricanes, fires, species extinction, aging and death, or worse not dying before the money runs out.

Do you struggle with anxiety and worry?

Of course none of these were the real reason for my anxiety. Digging deeper, I realized that it was triggered by my beginning something new and outside of my comfort zone. Whether it's moving across country, starting a new job or different kind of class, new ventures always contain the risk of failure, messing up, and rejection. Hence the anxiety.

However, I have moved past my anxiety and am writing to you to invite you to do the same, i.e. to step out of your comfort zone and join me in my new zoom class.

Are you ready to try out something completely different?

How about a zoom class that relieves anxiety while putting you in an altered state of transcendence? A class that brings you:

  • peace and calm
  • creativity and clarity
  • and a perfect balm for all of life’s challenges

Next Friday, I am starting a zoom class based on the work of my spiritual teacher, Adnan Sarhan, a Sufi master. I studied with him for over 35 years. I have taught this kind of class before, but this is the first time on zoom.

Some Sufi Background

Sufism is often associated with Islam, but is much, much older. Like Buddhism, it comes in may varieties. The variety I teach has evolved over many years to meet the needs of Western students. It is a generic spiritually devoid of limiting dogma. It focuses on experience not words. Catholics, Jews, Muslim have all been attracted to this work because of its purity. That's one of the meanings of Sufi -- purity. You do not need believe anything. You just try it out and see what happens.

Starting October 7th,  I will be offering a FREE 90-minute Sufi class on Zoom every Friday morning at 8 am PDT.

Why so early? It's the perfect way to start the day and prepare for the weekend. Early mornings have their own special quality.

Why I want to share this with you:

Thirty-eight years ago, I was introduced to Sufi work at a big turning point in my life. My first husband left me for another woman. The Sufi work was my lifeline. It enabled me to let go of my broken marriage and reclaim parts of myself I had suppressed since childhood. It reopened my heart.

When both my parents died in 1998, the Sufi work allowed me to find peace, understanding and acceptance. It also emboldened me to produce my award-winning, 3-part documentary film series, Secrets of Life and Death. That's when I really stepped out of my comfort zone!

A lot of the people in my Sufi community were first drawn to the work during major life challenges. It can heal deep wounds and get you moving again.

However, you don't need to be hurting to benefit. The Sufi practice activates creativity, personal insights and new ideas.

When the Pandemic hit in 2020, my Sufi community began delivering classes on Zoom. It kept us connected and doing the work. It must have been divinely inspired because our teacher Adnan Sarhan passed away soon after, from old age.

Little by little, we have begun to meet again in-person, but there will always be room for zoom.

The 90 minute zoom class I am offering combines slow movement with the breath and carefully selected music to create a deep state of relaxed awareness. Dance, hypnotic chants and other meditative exercise are also used.

To learn more you can listen to my short video HERE or read about the Sufi Foundation HERE.

I could go on . . . but it is much better to experience the work for yourself.

Spirit is an area we tend to neglect when our emotions spin out of control. Yet it often provides the biggest relief.

The Sufi work alleviates my anxiety and brings me back to myself, to what is really important, and to my courage. That is why I want to share this class with you, so you have the courage and clarity to focus on what is most important in your life.
