Opening to Love
Apr 20, 2023 8:01 pm
Yesterday, was my 20th wedding anniversary with the love of my life.
I found myself remembering that amazing day 20 years ago of real communal celebration. Everyone played a part — every family member, every friends. It was a wedding on a budget, unique and dependent on the combined efforts of many. People brought food, George's sister Janet made the table decorations, my sister Kip making me a crown of flowers, my sister Susi brought the white shawl, my friend Beth set up her concert sized audio equipment at the reception, and Odile was our DJ. My Tuesday morning dance group bought and brought the carrot wedding cake. Everything flowed together including the weather which switched from days of rain to a dry day and glorious sunrise wedding at 7 am on a hilltop in Briones Regional Park .
I awoke the next morning in tears. My heart was so full of love it could not contain it all. This is what divine love is like only a million times greater — a heart so full of love it aches.
It is human nature that we forget about this big love -- a love that is available all the time. We get so caught up in the mundane concerns and worries of daily life that we turn our backs and close our heart to this eternal spigot of love.
When we open to divine love, life is so much more enjoyable, friendly, fun. It doesn't take away the difficulties but it does make them more manageable. As a Sufi friend once said, “I used to have a lot of problems. I still have problems, they just don’t bother me so much.”
Yes, life has it’s trials! It is the reality of being human on this planet. However, when you open to divine love, you realize there is something more than whatever is bothering you. For one thing, you stop operating from fear, which means you have access to more sensible and creative parts of your brain where solutions are available. It is a mind shift of seismic proportion.
My Sufi meditation class can open you to divine love. By focusing on your breath and the moment you remove the mundane barriers of love. With each exhale you release fears, worries and concerns. With each inhale you receive life, vitality and inspiration. The graceful movements relax tense muscles and ease resistance. The music helps to open the heart and chanting invites all that is good, powerful and wise.
I have two classes scheduled this weekend, Friday, April 21 and Sunday, April 23 at 8:00 am PDT. Two opportunities to welcome love into your heart through
breath, movement, dance and sound.
