Thought That Disturb Your Peace

Human beings are gifted with amazing brains! We can imagine the future, recall the past and solve problems in unlimited new and inventive ways. We can communicate with language and transmit information without even being present.
There are, however, tradeoffs to this mind gift. The very same brain that builds empires, can also conjure up distortions of the world, past, present and future. It can trigger violent emotions and dangerous physical response. In an instant it robs you of peace. It can happen after a major loss, life challenge or after a news story or violent movie.
The body will react whether it is real or not. Imminent or just a theory. Current or a past. Sometimes we can shrugged it off, other times we are compelled to action, not in the best frame of mind.
It is easy to see the difficulty in the extremes, yet even minor mishaps can leave you caught in a negative loop, like when you are cut off in traffic, insulted by a rude store clerk, or fall into a silly argument with a good friend.
Meditation is the best antidotes to a negative mindset. It does not repress thought. It replaces it with something better --an empty mind. Not easy to achieve at first. That is the beauty of moving meditation. It give a place for you to park your mind.
With practice, meditation will not only still your thoughts in the moment, it will help you become aware of negative or unhelpful habits throughout your day. It becomes easier to adjust your responses to the words of others that tend to trigger defensiveness. You can more easily understand another person's point of view without taking it personally. Meditation leads to better social relationships.

There are no rules in this class except to try it out. Follow my movement, do your own or rest. You will learn to listen to the needs of your body. Your objective is to be true to yourself.
